What Happened?
Shares of analog chipmaker Microchip Technology (NASDAQ:MCHP) jumped 1.9% in the afternoon session after the company announced the expansion of its 10BASE-T1S Single Pair Ethernet portfolio with new transceivers and endpoint devices.
The expansion introduces the LAN8679 and LAN8680 physical layer transceivers alongside the LAN8660X/1X/2X family of endpoints with integrated transceivers to support zonal architectures. The new products are engineered to meet AEC-Q100 automotive qualification requirements and ISO 26262 functional safety standards while simplifying wiring and delivering flexible edge connectivity.
After the initial pop, the shares cooled down to $79.42, up 1.9% from the previous close.

What Is The Market Telling Us
Microchip Technology’s shares are very volatile and have had 24 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.
The previous big move we wrote about was 4 days ago when the stock gained 4.3% on the news that the stock continued to rally as the company introduced a new line of advanced digital power monitors the previous day. As detailed in a company press release, Microchip launched the PAC1761 and PAC1861 families of 65V digital power monitors, which are specifically designed for 48V power applications to measure accumulated energy use and provide transient headroom to withstand sudden voltage spikes.
These new chips are designed to help engineers build smarter and more resilient high-voltage electronic systems, allowing commercial customers to better manage energy draw and protect sensitive equipment. By expanding its lineup of power-management products, Microchip is directly targeting the growing industrial demand for robust 48V architectures, prompting investors to continue bidding up the stock as they digest the expanded total addressable market.
Moving forward, the market is treating this product launch as a steady step in capturing higher-margin power management market share, though sustaining this momentum will depend on how quickly customers actually integrate the new chips into their upcoming hardware designs.
Microchip Technology is up 22.1% since the beginning of the year, but at $79.42 per share, it is still trading 22.8% below its 52-week high of $102.92 from May 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Microchip Technology’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $1,038.
ONE MORE THING: The $21 AI Application Stock Wall Street Forgot. While Wall Street obsesses over who’s building AI, one company is already using it to print money. And nobody’s paying attention.
AI chip stocks trade at ridiculous valuations. This company processes a trillion consumer signals monthly using AI and trades at a third of the price. The gap won’t last. The institutions will figure it out. You need to see this first. Read the FREE Report Before They Notice.
